Club History

Bronte Wanderers FC was formed for the commencement of the 1993/94 season and was the idea of a small group of friends who wanted to create an extra open age football team in the village of Haworth to give more local people the chance to play competitive sport. These individuals organised a series of fundraising activities and approached local businesses to raise the money needed to get the club up and running and then to sustain it through its first season.

Bronte started life modestly at the lower end of the Craven and District Football League but gradually worked their way up through the divisions collecting both League and Cup silverware on a regular basis from 1998 onwards. In 2000 Bronte won both the Division One League title and the Division One Cup title and achieved promotion to the Premier League for the first time.  On the back of this success they also formed a Reserves side and in 2001 under the management of Glyn Smith they achieved the remarkable feat of winning the Division One League title, League Cup and also becoming Keighley Supplementary Cup champions.

Between 2002 and 2006 season Bronte’s First Team established themselves as one of the most consistent Craven Premier League sides and at the end of the 2006 season the club made the decision for the first team to join the West Riding County Amateur Football League. In their first County Amateur season they won the Division Two title gaining promotion to Division One and also secured victory against Keighley Shamrocks to win the prestigious Keighley Challenge Cup for the very first time in their 14 year history.

This season the second team have also moved from the Craven League and Bronte are running two open age teams In the WRCA Football League and at least four junior teams who will all play in the Craven and District Junior Football League.

Bronte Wanderers FC has developed from very humble beginnings into a successful and forward thinking club and we hope the foundations have been laid very firmly for what we hope will be an exciting new phase in our history.
